I'm 28 and never have had this before, so I'm a little concerned. We are not trying to get pregnant and I am actually on spironolactone to clear up my skin from being off birth control. (I got off bc to give my body time to get back to normal before we wanted to ttc).

So should I be concerned? Is this normal?

That is just the uterus cleaning itself. It is actually the lining is coming off, and it should do that every time you have a period because that means your body is ridding itself of old stuff. If you really concerned, I would go to the doctor and ask them. Good luck
