It bothers me that young women don't like to cook because I think it is a great way to be creative & it is very satisfying.

Well, I'm reasonably young (under 30), and I love to cook. I've been cooking since I was 7 years old.

I agree though that most of my friends my age don't cook AT ALL, and it bothers me. I wonder what they are going to feed their children when they become mothers - and is this why there is such a child obesity problem?

Why don't more young men learn cooking? Anyway, It's not "just" cooking ! It's shopping and prep and cooking and washing pots, pans and cuttingboards...does pot-washing and potato-peeling sound terribly creative to you? No? Cooking becomes yet another CHORE, just like doing the laundry or scrubbing a toilet bowl. I noticed that the Europeans still tend to do more home cooking than do North Americans; but then the French get a two-hour lunch break and only work 35 hours a week! Americans, by contrast, have no such luxury.

This comes from the feminist movement of the "60's-70's" era. The children and young adults of that time were told a women was no longer needed at home and should go out and get a job and compete in the workforce and forget about cooking and cleaning at home. Now it has been passed along to that generations children and has escalated further into the do your own things to where now women are told they don't even need a man around to have a family or to raise children.

So goes trends now there is a trend towards at home schooling and stay at home mom's.

Many young women do like to cook. They find it a good creative way to relax. But some young women haven't learned how to yet. Just be patient, they may come along.

Actually it all depends on the person. If she lies cooking or not, some young women prefer studying, working etc. But some actually do like cooking. I like cooking but I'm not so good in cooking because I'm only a pre-teen.

It's the same reason people don't teach their kids manners anymore. Society has become very individualistic, selfish, and lazy. Look around - we're surrounded by things that will provide instant gratification. Cooking in a kitchen requires effort, time, and love. (Yes, cooking requires love - that's the key ingredient!) It's much easier to order take-out from PF Chang's.

I'm with you - I wish we all stayed home and cooked more.

i dont because i dont have any skills. i tried but i suck at it so, obviously i wasnt born to cook. my hands work better when i draw, thats why i'm an artist, and not a cook or a housewife. on the other hand, my boyfriend makes the most amazing meals. you might think its a great way to be creative, but not for me. doesnt do anything for my creativity or my art. and its not satisfying for me, JUST for you.

Personally, I love to cook! Luckily I had a mom that cooked and taught me how...

HOWEVER, between full time job, part time school, and a personal life, I don't have time to cook. I usually eat frozen foods and pre packaged salads... I don't have time to COOK.

And, the other women my age just never learned how...

I think that most young women never knew how or particularly liked to cook... it's just that they were expected to, and learned how after they got married.

I'm 22.
