I'm pretty sure that each separate Microsoft word 2003 program has different product keys.

Will this work? I doubt it.
OpenOffice is awesome and I recommend it. If you don't have your key anymore, then I recommend downloading one from the internet that is the same version. You have a valid license, so I don't see anything wrong with that legally, especially since if you call M$, they will ask you to repurchase it.
Just like if you update your motherboard from some of these OEM manufacturers, they will make you repurchase windows as well.
