i went to the hospital last year.
they didn't know what was wrong with me for about a half hour,
i pretty much diagnosed myself by saying it was really thirsty.
they took my blood without telling me and stuck the IV in.
what happened when you went to the hospital?
just wondering, kinda bored.

I went in for a procedure and when I woke up my legs were in stir ups and there were students being taught something about the anus! I was mortified and humiliated! Apparently this is not against the law. I can laugh @ it now but it wasn't funny then!

I work in a hospital emergency room, so I have 40 hours a week in hospitals. My personal experiences in hospitals as a patients have been somewhat easier now that I'm in the medical field because I can sympothize with the staff and understand the medical mumbo jumbo the Dr's are saying to me.

It seems like it was a busy day in the hospital the day you were in there. As a patient you have the right to know what is going on with your treatment, so you need to constantly ask the doctor or the nurse what is going on. They legally have to tell you. If they are using terms you don't understand, tell them to tell you in normal terms. Trust me, they will, because they have to - you could sue for a lot of money if you're not treated fairly in a hospital. I've seen it happen.

Usually when I go to the hospital I am in for a long wait. The last time I went in in severe pain and waited for 4 hours for them to see me (I was diagnosed with an ulcer, giving drugs and sent home after another 3 hours). The time before that my husband went in (in worse pain than me, I'm sure) and he waited for 3 hours and was diagnosed with a kidney stone. They kept him almost overnight. The time before that my youngest daughter was ill, but it only took them a half hour to see her. When my oldest daughter was 3 she had a 104 fever and it took them 5 hours to see her! I still don't know why hospitals let you sit there in pain like that...

I went into the ER with horrible pain in my chest, raying out to my left arm. I was diagnosed a heart attack (I am a healthy 28 year old..) - but the nurses couldn't get the ECG machine to work. I am so glad that they were wrong: while the girls hectically pressed one button after the other on the machine, a doctor stepped in and immediately recognized a cramp in my back muscles..

I was in the hospital in December (06) and what you describe is normal procedure. It sounds like you were dehydrated for one thing, thus a IV saline solution to give your body liquid. As to Blood taking, again normal diagnostic procedure, as to the Boredom, that is the way it goes as the staff are there to help & cure you,not entertain you.

I thought I was having chest pains (I'm 40). I was rushed into the cardiac ward and hooked up to monitors. It was determined that I pulled a muscle in my chest from exercising too hard. I felt like an idiot. I was home in an hour. Best care I have ever received at a hospital.

A couple of years ago, my son, who was 4, broke his arm. It was unbelievable as to how well they treated my son...
