Herbs. Plants such as mint, rosemary, basil, oregano. Buy already grown and use immediately.
Veggies: Tomatoes (different varieties have different time for the fruit to grow check the labels in a nursery).

The first plants I ever grew from seed as a kid were radishes - they grow really fast, are practically indestructible, and they're actually good for you! :-)

Are you that hungry and desperate for food? It's best if you borrow some money off your family and pop down to Sainsbury's. Then pay them back in tomato plants, potatoes and cabbages from what you eventually dig from your garden.
