NOT A CHANCE- The U.S. economy thrives on the spending of the massive middle and lower classes. Do you know how many people I've known who can't stay out of debt to save their life. Many of them can't even balance their checkbook! A large portion of them could not handle a monetary system where there was no physical tender. They couldn't keep track of the numbers. They're like elementary students learning money who have to have cute little cut-out-paper coins and dollars as "counters".

Due to privacy concerns that some people have, I don't believe that fiat currency will ever become completely obsolete. However, electronic cash will become increasingly popular as more people make EFTs and direct deposits, own debit cards, pay their bills online, and make other monetary transactions without exchanging physical cash. Already we are seeing this happen.
