Dads army, wonderful.
Only fools and horse, loose the last two series.
Fraser, American class.
Please, there must be more?

I do think Scrubs is good but the moral at the end is too American!

Without doubt, no exception .......... Dad's Army.
Ageless and sooooooo funny.
Only fools and horses is up there as well, and with both programmes, each character is needed and has its own place.
Would Dad's Army be the same without Cpl Jones, and likewise, would Only Fools be the same without Trigger ?

Hmm...
Some great answers here - Red Dwarf was exceptionally well written and combines humour, philosophy and good quality science fiction. Only Fools was a joyful work, with real emotion and poignancy woven into its humour. Fawlty Towers was a higher-octane gyroscope of fun and pain, with the strands of love and loathing whipped up to breaking point by the British fear of embarrassment.
But to choose the best of them ever, I'd have to go with Steptoe and Son. The first experiment in comedy that wasn't 100% happy, it laid the format for shows like Fawlty Towers and Only Fools and even the Office by opening up the comedy of genuine pain and tension between those who depend upon each other. Not surprisingly, it became the most popular thing on television for years (just as Hancock's Half Hour, written by the same team, had been before it), and was the first long-term sit-com that transferred from the UK to the US (as Sandford & Son, though the US version wasn't anythign like as complex or emotionally charged). The scripts, while locked into their own time and the UK social astructure of a past decade, still affect audiences, the way any truly timeless work can, from Catch-22 to Shakespeare.

One Foot in the Grave / Keeping Up Appearances / Dads Army / Fawlty Towers - and those are just for starters!
These knock spots off of the American imports. I've never found things like Frasier, Seinfeld, King of Queens or Raymond even remotely amusing let alone funny!

USA: Frasier, no doubt. Intelligent writing, and understated performances. (apart from when Daphne's family turned up and Anthony LaPaglia tried without success to do an English accent)
UK: Fawlty Towers, Porridge, Open All Hours, (in fact, most things with Ronnie Barker in), and The Good Life!! (Margot rules)

Well seeing as how I've never heard of the shows that you have listed, I'll venture a guess that they're from Great Britain??
As for the best sitcom ever.....I, being a middle class American parent....would have to go with Roseanne...as it was the best representation of what American family life is like.....kinda sad, when ya think about it....but its the closest thing to real reality that I've ever watched.....
Other than that...I always liked *Wings* and *The Nanny* too :)
