Well, consider how many takes might be required to get the shot right. If they took 18 different shots and the actor took a real bite each time, they would need a new burger for each new take. The actor would be stuffed!
Also, the food you see on TV sometimes isn't real because the real thing doesn't always look so good on camera or in a picture. Milk has sort of a blue tint when it is on TV. Therefore, you'll never see real milk in a cereal commercial...it is white glue. The burgers you see in the commerical might not even be real.
