I don't know anymore but it just can't take that long. I went from Vienna to Athens by train (through former Yogoslavia, which meant big delays) back in 88 or so and it took much less than that.

Yup, at least 32 hours...

Your best bet would be Vienna - Beograd - Thessaloniki - Athens. Leave Vienna at 09:52 and get to Athens 16:54 the next day.

It takes over a full day and on that train, with the border stops and dodgy areas it will pas through, will feel like a lifetime. My suggestion, and a strong one at that...FLY.

It'll take approx. 30 to 32 hours,depends on how you want to connect.
