i want a cheap good bass guitar for a beginner

Ibanez makes excellent beginner's basses too...bet if you looked around, you could find one used for a hundred bucks or so. Check your local music shops in addition to all the websites mentioned above, they'll be there down the road when you need strings, lessons and such. Good luck--bassists rule!

Check with ebay, americanmusical.com, or musiciansfriend.com they will all have starter packages or just the guitar.
Be sure you have an amp specially for a bass guitar.

Yamaha, pick whatever you can afford. Many Fenders are affordable, too.
