I have a PC that was given to me. It came with a CD drive and had another installed. I plugged it all up and now it says that there is no CD player installed.

Go to control panel, select add hardware. then follow the steps. It should detect any add-ons such as cd-roms. Make sure that the jumper setting on the cd-rom is set to the appropriate setting (master, slave or cable select). I personally use the cable select setting, it detects the the placement of the ribbon cable so that it recognizes it as a master or a slave drive.

If "you have WIN98, go to "C:\window\cdplayer.exe", that will play CD's, you can also use Windows Media Player, to do the same thing.
If you are talking about the drive, make sure it is enabled in the BIOS.
