Oh wow, good question. Can people that rich be Chavs? They were probably Chavs when they were younger but with that much money they have probably been disqualified from the land of Chav and now have to put up with just being called tasteless instead.
(For the Americans out there I suppose the nearest equivalent American slang would be white trash, though I don't think the meaning is quite the same, Chav suggests a certain type of tackiness.)

No just common with money. 'Chav' is really not used in the right context anymore - come to Romford if you want to spot some genuine Chavscum!

no actually i dont think they are i think victorias dress sense is fab she m,ay be a little on the skinny side but i think she looks great in most of the things she wears. she's always up to date with the trends and people look at her as a role model.
and david is very cool, he dresses so sexy sometimes. i admit the odd time he may look a bit of a chav but not very often !!! they are a cool pair !!!

For the benefit of the American audience here, can someone define 'chavs?' I get a good idea from the context, but would appreciate a definitive description.

No way. They are classy. I would say that Cheryl and Ashley Cole are borderline chavish but not the Beckhams

Yes, and sadly, they are spreading this once easily contained and dealt with issue across the pond! Thanks to them, the Americans will start wearing burberry, drinking cheap cider and getting into fights because someone just happened to glance in their direction. Chavviness should be eradicated, not spread across the globe!

I don't think so, I think they're just tacky. God help the USA, like the citizens haven't had a bad enough few years anyway, now they have to endure "Skeletor" and "The Kicker".
Oh well, at least we here in the UK are free of them for a while.
