Don't you hate it when you're with someone and neither of you can think of what to say? Does anybody have any good conversation topics that people can chew away at for a long time? Randomness welcomed.

Good question!
It really depends on the people's personalities and what they're interested in.
However...
My personal favorite is to make up completely ridiculous theories and then come up with logical proofs for them, using a theme both people have in common. It's something both people can apply their imagination to.
For example,
The other night I was sitting at a restaurant with a friend, eating some nachos, and neither of us were saying much. So, since we were both studying anthropology, I started talking about the evolution of my nachos.
See, they start out just as chips, and they end up as chile peppers and sliced olives. Only the strongest and the fastest nacho chips survive my hand-to-mouth selective process to end up reproducing when I put them in the take home box. Why is it that when I get home and open the box, there are inevitably more chips (albeit smaller ones) and peppers and olives that I never put in the box, in the box?
It's evolution in action! Natural selection and genetic drift, baby!
Now that you think I'm crazy, try this on your friends and see how long you can keep it going - we were at this for about half an hour.
