They don't. I have seen bats going in all directions on leaving the cave. Often the bats will head towards favoured feeding areas so they will all seem to be going the same way and sometimes that is to the left but it is just as likely to be to the right.

Salam Alaikum.. Today I set up three terminals for the GAAP program and finished the List to be published tomorrow by Ankaboot or the day after when I feel like it inshAllah. I also did some Islamic studies, fasted and went to mosque to help for taraweeh and so on. I just got back to the office about 1hr ago and just about to leave and start walking down some dark alleys in hopes to give my fighting skills a good workout as the drunks should be coming out as its 4am hahah! Salam Maybe I will go pick up a shawarma and fly ontop of a tall building and watch you ants for a while. Depends on my mood, it is a full moon! Spooky!~ out of the batcave its a right then a left or right depends on where I have to go. in the batcave its a left or right and then 2 hard lefts.... :) Salam Its nice now cause the trees cover the path well...

One reason maybe that bats fly together, being nocturnal creatures and are blind. Many times they go to the same site each night to feed. Hence, maybe there food site is simple located in that direction. Bats see by emitting screeches that reflects back when hit upon an object. They roost in the cave during the day and come out at night.

Two reasons I've heard.

1. They are creatures of the night and therefore sinister ("sinister" = "left" in Latin)

2. In built natural reaction to stop them colliding with each other.
