It is much cheaper to get your car hire in the UK as EVERYTHING is paid upfront. They will always try and sell you extra insurance but you dont need it.
It is a good idea to hire a car with Sat Nav in it which is cheap to add on.
Go for at least a full size car if not an intermediate as the smaller cars do not have parcel shelves so your belongings are not safe left in the car.
Not all car hire rentals are located at the airports some are a drive away where the rental companies take you to pick up your car. Dollar car rental are on site at Orlando international airport and have great prices in the UK.
It is always a good idea to book your car rental with an agent as if anything should go wrong ( and I wouldnt wish that on anybody ) then you have them to deal with it for you and it is their phone bill extra not yours if you have to wait in a que to speak to someone.
After 16 years in the business car hire companies are not the quickest at sorting out complaints.
if you want any more help then feel free to email me

I would book this before you leave. There are several really good companies located in the Orlando area for transfers. Just be sure to use a reliable company. I've heard of many situations where the companies don't show up, or once they arrive charge more than they quoted, etc. But there are some really good, trustworthy companies.
For most companies they will tell you the rate of the transfer and reserve one for you, but you don't actually pay for it until you get there for your pickup. The biggest problem with waiting is that you will be solicited by a lot of companies that should not be trusted. So having something reserve with a well-known and honest company is the best way to go. If you find a less expensive transfer once you get there, it more than likely isn't a very good company..... quick story for an example. In Disneyland they have a shuttle service they offer, actually two. The one is called Disneyland Express, large tour bus with Mickey on the side, etc. When you book this transfer you have to wait for them to pick up about every 15-30 minutes. If you don't know how it works you feel like they aren't coming. They have a call board with different transfer companies, all imitating other companies to try to solicite your business. They cost a little less but are known for getting lost, etc.
As far as insurance, I've never had a transfer company try to sell me the insurance. And once you arrive at your destination it is far too late to purchase it. That usually needs to be added on before you make your final payment. So there should be no problems there.
I hope that this answers your questions.
Have a great time!

By far the most convenient although not necessarily the cheapest (when you are in Florida bleary eyed and jet lagged) is to make a reservation with the rental company before you go and then do the paperwork and pay when you get there. Take your UK licence, International licences are frowned upon. DO take out CDW (collision damage waiver) insurance.Make sure you pay for the full tank of gas up front, that way you don't have to top the tank up before you drop the car off and pay over the odds for fuel you won't use. Happy motoring.

Probably you will get a good rate if you book at least a couple of weekds ahead and get it for at least a week. Enterprise and Dollar are pretty cheap but I like National/Alamo because the cars are a little better and they let you choose which one you want.
Yes, they will try to sell you the extra insurance. I've never gotten it because I've been covered by my company. I would just ask your insurance agent if you're covered. (If you have car insurance in the UK.)

I always book through travelocity, AAA, or onlinehotels.com. You can deny insuarnce both now and they probably wont offer if you wait. I do know that as the longer you wait-the higher the proces get. So for the hotel-book now online and as for the car (I dont know bc we live in Tampa Fl-so we drive there)
