It's mutilation usually performed in unsanitary conditions and can cause many physical and emotional problems including death.
Additional detail:
I'm sad to break the news to you Sweetness but female circumcision usually involves the REMOVAL of the clitoris and often removal of the external labia (without anesthesia!) insuring that the female cannot enjoy sexual stimulation !!! It is a means of the subjugation and denigration of women and unlike male circumcision, there is never a medical need for such a procedure.

What's referred to as female circumcision can vary from removal of the hoodo f the clitoris to removal of most of the labia and stitching together what remains, leaving a small hole to allow urine and menstrual flow to escape.
It is almost universally practised by females on females.
The usual arguments in favor of it are the same as are adduced in the US for male circumcision -- much cleaner and much neater-looking.
The usual arguments against it are the same as are adduced in the US against male circumcision -- barbaric mutilation imposed on children without their consent.

It's mutilation not circumcision.
There is no medical reason for that to be done.
By doing that to a female, all of her chances of enjoying sexual experiences are removed.

i agree with Pat from ohio.......it is a form of mutilation and probably will have some sort of lasting after affect ......the best being that she will have a much higher level of sensitivity around the clitoris, per say. and you have the statistics on this little area that can pack such a a powerful punch.....and might i just say "oh, my God.i
