You are asking to compare entities that are not comparable.
J2EE is a platform framework while Visual Basic is a programming language.
However, you can compare the Java language with Visual Basic, or J2EE with the .NET Framework.
Following are some definitions to help you understand more.
1) J2EE: Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) - a version of Java for developing and deploying enterprise applications
2) Visual Basic: A programming language created by Microsoft as a version of BASIC
3) Java: an object-oriented programming language developed initially by James Gosling and colleagues at Sun Microsystems
4) .NET Framework: a software development platform focused on rapid application development, platform independence and network transparency
Thank You

I hope I'm not answering a homework question! :-)
J2EE is the Enterprise Edition of the Java language:

Visual Basic is an improvement of Basic.

There's a great many differences between these two languages. The primary one being that Java can run on any hardware that has a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) while Visual Basic can only run on Windows environments.

Probably the biggest difference is that Java needs a runtime environment - a virtual machine but Visual Basic is native Windows executable code.
This also means that VB can only be run in Windows but Java can be run anywhere.

day and night in terms of good programming structural practice. Old Visual basic code looks like spaghetti all jumbled about, and with go to patches and little docs. Very hard to maintain such code
