Last week the top movie in the country was "Epic Movie," a movie which pretty much everyone agrees sucked ***. None the less, people paid to see it and the lesson that Hollywood learned was "if we put out crap like this, we can make a pile of money. Thus, let us put out more crap like this."
Every time you see a movie just because a certain actor is in it, you send a message to Hollywood that that particular actor or actress is worth whatever money they need to spend to get them in their movie. It isn't as if Hollywood producers just decide one day to pay Jim Carry $20 million - they pay him that because his movies can make five times that if he is in them. You, the general viewing public, taught Hollywood that.
When people stop seeing his movies, the amount he gets paid drops significantly.
Furthermore, the images of these stars sells magazines, products and even ideas. Again, this only happens because we voted with our dollars.
While many Hollywood actors use their fame as a platform to support political and social causes - Michael J. Fox springs to mind - the fact of the matter is that if our entertainment media would spend more time focusing on the poor and disabled if there was a way of making money off of focusing on them. So long as there is no money to be made in helping the poor and disabled, the entertainment media will continue to pay attention to actors and other stars and ignore the poor.
So, to answer your question, yes, it would be beneficial for the entertainment media to put more focus on the poor and disabled. As things stand, though, the poor and disabled don't hold the public's attention as well as the wealthy and glamorous do.

America doesn't see actors/actresses as workmanlike. America sees them as stars. Half the news is about the beautiful people being beautiful and the stars shining for the various forms of the media. To be an actor or actress has given, in Ameica, the idea that one must be all knowledgeable
or something. Because you play Spiderman or Lara the Tomb Raider you must have those powers. So we listen to what people in a profession which specializes in creating illusion on everything from hair styles to politics. Yes, they are given too much importance.
I don't see how the kind of importance given actors and actresses follows across to the giving importance to disabled or poor people who work very hard, except in one respect, and that is that these people should be held in high respect for doing what they are able to do in this world.

The media is a organisation, like all different. they're attracted to earning funds. extra visitors/readers means extra money. human beings are attracted to celebrities, so that they'll watch/examine the media that provides them thoughts about them. unhappy yet authentic. you may't restore the media without fixing the clients.

Yes you are right!
but where are those people who think of this?
the actors earns millions.. but when there is any tragedy in the country, they dont donate any single penny,, instead of this they came to roads asking for donations from people. Doing this they get the much needed publicity and they save their money.
