Getting self confidence has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. I would by no means say it was easy, and has been a long and hard journey, but I am SO SO glad I did it as I can do so many more things (like walk into a lecture hall on my own).
So how did I go about getting it?
Well, first I made the pledge that I was going to do it. It was actually a new years resolution, to stop being such a walkover, and feel better about myself.
Then I thought about makng the smallest steps. First I tried to do just one of the things that I was supposed to do but held back cos of my lack of confidence. As I'm a med student this was going into the wards and asking patients if I could talk to them about thier illness and examine them. This was soemthing my medical school expected me to do on a regular basis but it took me four months and a resolution to make me do it.
I then decided to do other things like go into cafes on my own, go shopping ect. If there was something that I was really scared of doing then I took a friend along to do it the first time, once I had done it a few times in a pair, then I knew what it was like and could try to do it on my own.
Eventually I managed to do things on my own and got to be a fairly confident person, even though I still have moments when I have to go out of my comfort zone and make myself do things that I don't want to. I even have chickened out of some things as I just couldn't do it (I still have a little way to go)
Last year I did the ultimate thing to test my confidence. I went to Peru (Cajamarca) for eight weeks on my elective. I went on my own to a country where no-one spoke English, only Spanish. And I survived, even though I didn't speak a word of Spanish til May, and Iw ent in October.
Good luck, you will get there, just make sure you want it hard enough.

Rehearse the lecture in your head. Add a little humour to the speech.
The best thing for me to get confident in that situation is to make them laugh.
If you don't mind the embarrassment make a silly statement-then say out load (If it is appropriate) well I have ****** that up-or words to that effect
I have been in a meeting with 20 to 30 people. I was nervous and I had to introduce myself. I told them who I was and marital status (single) then suggested that if anyone knows of any nice girls who will have me then tell them about me.
This made them laugh. And I was high for days.
Hope this helps and good luck.

theres 21 answers on this already see the "search for questions" box above here? its a good idea to put your question in there before asking it cause you will get a lot of answers already. blushing is supposed to be somewhat hereditary so i am not sure what you can do about it. you could join the "toastmasters club" if you live in usa----they are excellent in helping people to speak in public.

Try an Andrew Carnegie course. Do a Y! search to see if courses are offered in your area.
