iam fresher for system admin job and iam now working in desktop. how many years i have to work in desktop to switch to system administrator like if i want to work on servers.

There is no preset requirement for working on desktops .... it depends entirely on your abilities.

Working on desktops does not generally prepare nor teach you the skills necessary for network & server managment.

Enroll for the proper trainings .... this is how you get there.

No company in their right mind will let you be responsable for the securuty & stability of their network simply because you formated hard drives & installed Windows, or assembled desktops for a few years .... it ain't that hard to do that.

Which OS are you targetting? That's the main question...

Microsoft has courses, but I'd also recommend you learn how to fix Linux computers as the majority of web servers run some version of Linux.

Ubuntu's a gentle start...
