Good lord he's seven?????? I don't know, Slipknot is one of those very loud, metal kind of bands I think. I mean, just listen to the name, "Slipknot"? What kind of message is that sending? A slipknot is what you use to kill yourself!

Here Are Some Lyrics. They say the F-word about 20 times in the song, and the title even has a swear in it. In my opinion, this REALLY isn't what a seven year old should listen to, unless he wants to be mentally disturbed when he grows up.

Technically, no, unless he is listening to an edited version (CD would have NO explicit lyrics logo, in this case). But even then, for a seven year old, I think the parents should listen to the lyrics first. Their lyrics are dark in context meaning: They talk about things such as suffering, emotional pain, and, I think, suicide, and I'm sure they are against organized religion (Christianity, for example). I only have had one of their albums and don't really listen to them anymore, maybe they've changed their lyrical content.

For me, personally, I have a basic rule of thumb. If my kid at some point becomes smarter than me (he's a bright toddler), then I will no longer listen to music that I pass along to him, watch movies before letting him see them, etc. because at that point he will have matured enough mentally that he is able to decide for himself, and I will hope that he will not be influenced by the lyrics of a song, and see music and films as what they basically are, which is art. He isn't really at that stage yet, obviously. I have him listening to mainly classical music and watching sesame street.

But I'm not your nephew's legal guardian. If you have a concern, I would tell your aunt/uncle to either listen to the CD thoroughly and/or read the liner notes b/c you are concerned it might not be appropriate for your nephew.

And of course, if your nephew has not developed enough to understand what the words of the song mean, it probably wouldn't hurt him to listen to the tune, but if he's singing along, then I would suggest to your aunt/uncle to talk to the boy about it and SEE whether or not he understands what Slipknot is singing about.

Sorry I was so long-winded there. Hope that helps you out.
