What was the name on the horse that survived the Boer war?

I think there was only one horse that survived it from beginning to end. Can anyone remember his name?

I'ts a question that has alot of history but to be semi brief. the horse was named Gabardine. He was given as gift--by accident--to a Major George Roller by Thomas Burberry. They shared a common interest in horses.
