We have two books which we are trying to find out the value of i.e. The Circus of Adventure dated 1952 no other dates at all. and the dust cover is unclipped with the price of 8/6d. The Dust cover is a bit scruffy and has been sellotaped around the edges in the past and has yellowed with age. The other book is The River of Adventure same condition as the first book but is dated 1955

if you look in one of the front few pages u will find a row of about 8-10 numbers
Ex 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 this means third edition
you take the first no of the row if it is 1 then you have got a first edition.
That is how it works hope this is helpful

a It is not easy and requires some knowledge gained through experience. The lack of any previous printing dates is a good sign but I think only a guide. A first edition of a little known author would have little value compared to famous author. Scarcity is also a factor. Specialist subject books do well, entomology or horology for example.I would ask at a good antiquarian book shop if they are of any value he will offer a price for you to consider. Then do some further research if he shows interest in them!

look at the backside of one of the first few pages the publising company and the year of pblication will be listed. if only one year is printed, that means it's a first edition. if more than one year of publication is listed, count the numbers of years listed and that will tell you what edition you are at.
EX. 2002 (alone) = 1st edition
2002, 2005 = 2nd edition
2002, 2005, 2007 = 3rd edition

I THINK YOU SHOULD TRY AMAZON.COM....Selling your preowned and new items at Amazon.com is fast, easy, and doesn't cost you a penny until your item sells......In addition to selling alongside Amazon.com's catalog, sellers can also sell through Auctions.
