i live in sacramento my employer sends me out of town (petaluma)to do a job is he required to pay me milage,gas or drive time

whenever you have to use your own transportation, you get paid. at least thats how its been at my jobs. a few even did it when i had to work at a store that was farther from mine if they needed an extra hand.

If you are union or it is in your employment contract/job description then yes. If you are an "at will" employee I would believe it is employer's discrestion. If there is a human resourses person for your company ask them.

If you are fairly friendly with your boss and can actually talk to him ask him if he would pay for travel expenses or ask him to rent you a car that way you don't put the wear and tear on your own vehicle. If it is a really great job and you make good money I wouldn't worry too much about it. The trip is under 100 miles and drive time is less than 2 hours.

I live in WV and jobs are not as plentiful and well paying as they are in CA so I am coming from a different work ethic than most people. In WV we keep jobs we hate just to have a job.
