i have a dwarf hamster, and i went to check him out today, and i think hes sick, he has this white stuff in his eyes, and from what i could tell, wet tail, could these be related? i gave him 6 drops of dritail, and he seems to be acting wierd, like hes hungery, but his bowl is half full, the water bottle is easy to access, and his behaivior seems to have changed, he now sleeps inside the bedding. i would take him to a vet, but the only one in the aeria isnt trustworthy, he tried to make me pay for stuff i hadent asked for in te first place. so i left the place and to him, i owe $50 i think. that and its 4 in the morning. he has another cage buddy, but hes just that, a buddy, he isnt mean, he never takes the food for himself, and he never fights. hes the perfect hamster. the other one, however, this is his third time getting sick. only he never had this white stuff in his eyes. please tell me if it could get stalin sick, and how i should treat it

like i said, stalin and gorby are wierd, they dont seem to care that they are in the same cage, they never fight, and im with them about %80 of the time as they live in my room, after getting them, i got a bit concerned that the sound from my computer sterio and the computer itself running could cause them some stress, so i bought some quiet fans, and i hardly ever use my sterio, i always use headphones. i freak out when it gets cold or hot in my room, as being cold can cause them wet tail as i understand. i check in on them every now and then, and since my last check, id say gorby has lost a lot of weight, so i gave both him and gorby dritail, so stop it from spreading, i would get them seperated, but i dont have the money to get one of them a new cage, and i cant really improvize here, as most of the containers i own could be toxic to live in, computer chassis, stuff like that. i dont have any cardboard, but ill keep checking.

If you can, find another vet in a nearby town/city. You definately need to seperate the buddies. Put the sick one in another cage/box/crate anything. Keep lots of fluids for him and no veggies until he's completely recovered. If you can't take him to the vet you at least need to seperate them to keep the others from getting what he has. Good luck and God bless.

seperate them so the other one does not get sick. continue with the dritail if he does infact have wet tail.

He might have an eye infection and you will have to go top the vet for that. Vet's always charge for things you dont ask for if there are treatments involved..i got charged $15 for 2 drops in my dog's eye ontop of the $64 vet visit, the antibiotics that didnt wirk, the new prescription..you get charged for everything no matter where you go.

For the time being wipe away whatever you can from around his eyes with a damp, soft cloth.

If you have a pet store near by with knowledgeable staff, you ca bring him in and ask their advice. maybe call ahead first so you dont manke the trip for nothing.

Get you hamster dome Pedilyite from the baby section or the pharmacy. If you hamster is drinking his water put it in there (both can have this) about a capfull. If not feed with a dropper. Stay away from fresh friuts and veggies for the next week or 2

good luck i hope he gets better

hi, you obviously care for your hamsters ,(and youve probably heard this before) if one is ill they need to be seperated-wet tail can be caught by the healthy hamster. but once seperated they might never cope with living together again. male hamsters in general shouldnt live together ( i didnt know this when i got a pair of male russion dwarfs and they fought like mad!) im aware that yours dont fight but that could be because only one wants to be dominant (they other just gives in) if this is the case it could be that one is essentially bullied ( and is reluctant to eat/ drink) basically its in their best interests to keep them apart, i know you said that you cant afford a new cage- plastic tanks can be brought very cheap, and although theyre small its better than nothing. be carefull of using a cardboard box- they can get through them so quick!
the treatment for wet tail is generally protein (dog biscuits are good for this, or high protein high fat nuts like peanuts) fluids and antibioitcs. alot of hamsters wont survive even after this. if your hamster is losing weight make sure you keep them warm. the white stuff in the eyes could be many things- it could be discharge ( like sleep in your eyes), it could be an infection (you'll need antibiotics) or it could be symptoms of a cold (hamsters can catch human colds- have you been ill lately?) unfortunatly the only person who can tell you for sure is a vet,are there any animal rescue centers in you area could you ask them for help? or travel out of area?
note : this is all based on personal experience, or things i have read. i am not an expert, just trying to help

It sounds like your hamster may be getting cataracts. It is blindness that occurs with old age. I had a hamster that had it and lived another 2 years happily. YOu should seperate the 2 hamsters, in case the sick one is contagious. And if the one that is sick happens to die, the one that is healthy may go through a period of depression (that happened with my guinea pigs.) You also should find a vet. He needs to be looked at.

properly in case you may not have adequate money the vets you're a irrespnsible puppy proprietor i ought to say. the interest of being a puppy proprietor is having adequate funds positioned aside for a emergency vet appointment or get them insured. i had to take my rabbit to the vets ecause she grow to be dropping her fur and on account that my rat grow to be purely on the vet it grow to be costy. regardless of the indisputable fact that it grow to be my interest and duty to take her and get her the clinical interest she needed. so i bought my television and ps2 and were given adequate funds for it. so attempt promoting some stuff to take your hamster. your hamster should be in soreness and be suffering and also you dont understand because she will be ready to not flow to the vets. please be particular to be prepared before you get a puppy and performance funds for the vets. you cant stay contained in the instantaneous with pets you opt on to imagine about the destiny. solid success. best of success to you hammy. desire i helped Michelle and sorry if i sound snobby up there i purely dont decide on any animals suffering.

wet tail is a serious problem, my gerbil got put down. if you havent already, try talking to someone at the pet store. petsmart usually has a rodent person.
and in the future, hamster are solitary animals, so giving them a cage buddy might lead to fighting.
i hope your hamster get better.

take it to a different vet, even if it is one not in your area. It is worth driving the extra distance to keep your hamster alive.
