They refer to the same time period, but technically "Middle Ages" is a noun, "medieval" is an adjective.

For instance, you could say:
"Agincourt was a battle that took place in the Middle Ages."
or
"Agincourt was a medieval battle."

The Medieval period is generally taken to be the time period in Europe from the end of the Western Roman Empire (dated from the abdication of Romulus Augustus in 476) to either the fall of Byzantium (1453), Columbus's voyage to the New World (1492), or the begining of the Protestant Reformation (1517) depending on who you talk to.

So roughly the milleneum (1000 years) from the 5th to the 15th century is the Middle Ages, aka the Medieval Period, aka Medieval Times.

[note: the "Dark Ages" is a term no longer used by historians. It is now considered to be a pejorative term, created by Enlightenment era philophers to show their distain for anything (except Ancient Greece) that had come before them. ]
