I just posted a question about how my browser is acting up and many of you guys are telling me that I should try another browser. But how do I do that when my browser is in "not responding" mode? And tell you what? I'd encountered the same problem with my desktop where I HAD installed Firefox!! but I had two systems installed there so when my browser in one started acting up I switched to the other one!

This time I really don't know what should I do :-s Do I have to format my hard drive and install everything all over again?

Reinstalling your operating system is the last thing you should do - when in doubt, try to fix it.

You obviously have 'net access, so why don't you download some security programs and burn them onto disk while you're over at your friend's house?

I recommend:
AVG (Anti-virus)
Ad-aware (anti-spyware)
Spybot Search & Destroy (anti-spyware)
Zonealarm (firewall)
Ccleaner (clears out crud)

Firefox (replaces Internet Explorer)
Thunderbird (Replaces Outlook - You can grab your yahoo and hotmail e-mails with only a small add-on or two... easy peasy!)

Clear out old files onto CD
Uninstall programs you don't use
Defragment your drives

It's just general computer maintenance.

If your computer's being a royal pain:
Go over to a friend's place and burn Ubuntu onto disk - restarting your cranky computer with the CD in the drive will load Ubuntu into your computer's ram - not touching anything on your computer.
Ubuntu has a lot of programs ready to go - Firefox, Openoffice, Thunderbird, GAIM (Instant Messaging on MSN, Yahoo, and lots of other networks)

Feel free to try new stuff, but ask around on the net - my best tip is to go into Google groups and put in the name of the program. Read the stuff that comes up to see if there are any serious issues.
Forewarned is forearmed.
