Light touch travels through the nerves to the brain faster than pain.
The theory is that you overload the nerves with light touch signals and make no room for the pain signals to go to the brain.
Rubbing lightly but vigorously is the way.

I always rub my head when I bang it, it seems to help relieve the pain that shoots through your brain to the back. =)

I rub it. The rubbing & the pain are usually accompanied by plenty of excessive swearing
