Copper and aluminium, in this order. But copper is much more expensive so finally it boils down to an economical problem

Silver is the best conductor, but isn't commonly used due to its high cost. Copper is better than aluminium, which is used in the big, high voltage transmission lines because it is lighter and cheaper and forms a protective oxide coating. Gold is very good, but costs > $600/oz!!!

Copper's your best bet! I would also advise getting a splice set from your local automotive store (comes in a small kit, very versitile) and a set of crimpers to use with the splices. Avoid electric tape (black tape) like the plague, it's just a bad idea.

gold is a better conductor than copper and alluminium though it is a lot more expensive. I would go with gold if i could afford it:P
