I think having term limits would be far more effective than a retirement age. Take politicians like Ted Kennedy, he's outlived his usefulness in the Senate and is only getting reelected on the Kennedy name. he makes no worthwhile contribution to the Senate. I would say that 3 terms should be the limit for a senator, given that each term is 6 years. For a Representative, the limit should be nine terms, since a single term for them is 2 years.

WHY NOT.the ANSER IS YES YES AND YES.
All types of public servants either in civil, military, judiciary,Government,Public and private sctor do have a retirement age limit.
Politicians are not above all these..and there is absolutely no need to extend their term( alloe in active executive political positions) beyond a limit.
More over to File anomination, thee SHALL BEW MINIMUM EDUCATION LIMIT..at least Graduation in any Discipline from a recognised university.
They should be allowed to enter politics only after attaining a certain age..and similarly ,they should be allowed to be in active politics upto say a maximaum of 65 years.
More polititians bring ther kith and kin as their heirs. This shall be banned. If his kith and kin is himself eligible by all means ,then let him come into politics. But The Minister is not aan OLD Jaagirdaar or Nawaab like person ..whose heir gets automatically His position after his term or demise.etc.
One more thing I cant undertand is the pension and perks an MLA or an MP is allowed after serving a single term.
A Government servant who serves for more than 33 years or so, never gets any thing comparable to the Pension and perks the politicians get.
The politicians ,all are not dishonest. But a majority is.They amass money during their tenure and the pay etc they get is peanuts for such people. Some very educated and intellectual political leaders are essentioal to lead the country. So SUCH INTELLIGENT ,INTELLECTUAL PERSONALITIES MUST BE ALLOWED TO BE MEMBERS OF A AN ELITE COMMITTEE OR JURY LIKE BODY AND ALL IMPORTANT MATTERS MAY BE DISCUSSED IN THAT FORUM AND THEIR FINAL OPINION AND INDIVIDUL OPINIONS MAY BE TAKEN FOR FINAL CONSIDERATION IN RESOLVING AN ISSUE.THEIR INTLLIGENCE SHALL BE ALWAYS USE ....
One more thing, the seats shall not be on reservation Basis.Already more than half century is over..still to continue these reservations adversely result in the progress og any country.I am not against the backward communities shall not be helped. All economically backward communities shall be given EVERYTHING FREELY to get good education...But they shall compete and come out with merit.
POLITICIANS are not separate breed to be beyond all rules and regulations.
So their knowledge shall be used as saidearlier. But JUST LIKE ANY ONE THEY SHOULD RETIRE.THE SGE LIMIT SHALL BE MAXIMUM 65 Years.
Let us hope .such day will dawn
I dont mean anything against anyboy.I love my Country..So I want it to be lead by efficient intellectual young personalities with a vision.GOD HELP MY COUNTRY.

If we fix a retirement age for politician we will loose good politician like Shri. Kalingar, Shri. Kamarajar, Shri. Vajipayji and many and many.
As age increase wisdom increases and selflees service to the society increases.
But it should not allow incopetence, I hope people will not vote for a incopetent people.

Yes, when you get man t.i.t.s., it's time to retire.
When it takes longer than 1 minute to start peeing.
When you can take out most of your teeth and brush them in your hand as you watch CNN.
And last, when you fart in public, and think it's just a right you have when your a senior, and the sound of it is something like a five gallon bucket of water being thrown forcefully into a toilet, it is time to retire!!

There can be no age limit for politicians but for those among them holding public office like MLA, MP, CM, PM, President, etc the age limit should be enforced and should be 60 years - the same as any public servant.

Yes. Most American companies instill a retirement age. It helps to keep the payrole down and also allows for younger people in the company to move up. Besides, someone who can speak coherently without drooling on themselves is a lot more valuable.

no but in the US i am completely in favor of "Term Limits" for congress.
The founding fathers did not envision political parties and professional politicians who spend their lives in a career laughably described as "public servants".
They envisioned people living normal lives and eventually running to serve for a short period then going back to their lives.
i think a maximum of 2 terms in the senate and 3 in the house would be a good idea and good for the country.
It will never happen.

no need to get retired from politics , if politicians never force their family members to politics, or the family members force their father/mother to project after them that itself make a huge change in perfect government.
