You have to enable it in the drive properties.
First go to to control panel/system/hardware and find your device. Click properties and check the enable DMA box. This should work. However DMA may not be available for that drive.
There may also be a registry entry that may need to be changed regarding udma 66 or 100.
Here is a tool that can help you if you can't enable it

(Digital Media Adapter) See digital media hub.

(Document Management Alliance) A specification that provides a common interface for accessing and searching document databases. It provides interoperability between multivendor document management systems. DMA was released in 1998 by the DMA task group of the AIIM association. See AIIM.

(Direct Memory Access) Specialized circuitry or a dedicated microprocessor that transfers data from memory to memory without using the CPU. Although DMA may periodically steal cycles from the CPU, data are transferred much faster than using the CPU for every byte of transfer. On PCs, there are eight DMA channels commonly used as follows. Most sound cards are set to use DMA channel 1. See PIO mode.

DMA Used for 0 8-bit transfer 1 8-bit transfer 2 Floppy disk controller 3 8-bit transfer 4 Cascaded from 0-3 5 16-bit transfer 6 16-bit transfer 7 16-bit transfer

Are you sure you have your jumpers set right?DVD-rw set as master and CD-rw slave? Also try reinstalling they should auto. pick up your Direct Memory Access or at least offer for you to turn your DMA on if it is off when you first open the new hardware up............

Direct memory get admission to (DMA) is a function of cutting-area pcs and microprocessors that permits particular hardware subsystems interior the computing device to get admission to equipment memory for interpreting and/or writing independently of the considered necessary processing unit. Many hardware platforms use DMA which contains diskpersistent controllers, photos playing cards, community playing cards, sound playing cards and GPUs. DMA is likewise used for intra-chip information move in multi-middle processors, noticeably in multiprocessor equipment-on-chips, the position its processing ingredient is equipped with a community memory (frequently called scratchpad memory) and DMA is used for transferring information between the interior of reach memory and the numerous memory. pcs which have DMA channels can move information to and from units with a lot less CPU overhead than pcs with no DMA channel. in addition a processing ingredient interior a multi-middle processor can move information to and from its interior of reach memory without occupying its processor time, overlapping computation and information move. without DMA, utilising programmed enter/output (PIO) mode for verbal change with peripheral units, or load/keep practise interior the case of multicore chips, the CPU is frequently totally occupied for the completed period of the examine or write operation, and is for this reason unavailable to finish different artwork. With DMA, the CPU may initiate the move, do different operations even as the move is in progression, and get carry of an interrupt from the DMA controller once the operation has been carried out. it truly is really sensible in actual-time computing applications the position no longer stalling in the back of concurrent operations is intense. yet another and proper software section is countless varieties of flow processing the position that is taken under consideration necessary to have information processing and move in parallel, with a view to achieve adequate throughput.

device manager
under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

pick out the ide channel your drives are on and under properties/advanced settings you can enable dma if it's available on the drive
