I've been trying encourage my best friend to get help for anger management and dealing with serious effects of a traumatic experience involving her dad passing away and her being present. She also has serious self esteem issues. I know If a person doesn't want our help, that's their choice. I want to know how I can cope with this. any suggestions?

I guess the first thing if to be there for her in listening, and trying to understand how she feels. Anger is part of the grieving process...but maybe you are worried this is more than that....and you may be right to be worried. Offer to go with her to talk to someone....it might seem less intimidating. And since she is already upset, try not to upset her more.....it is hard to put yourself in her place. Everyone needs someone to care. If you have a serious concern for her well-being you may need to share that with someone who is near her to help watch out for her until she starts feeling better...like her Mom perhaps....and then just try to be caring and available. She probably needs you around even if she doesn't communicate it.

You can't force anyone to do anything. Personally, I don't like people helping me - it makes me feel guilty for some reason, so she might feel the same. Although I love helping others, I don't like to ask anyone for help. All you can do is be a good friend and respect her wishes.
