Only a cat like myself can answer this one !!! Don't I look so handsome in this photo. But now for the real dilemma.
More recently tech devices and the progress of the study of animal behaviour have all proved that animals communicate. I don't know about talking to us, unfortunately we don't have a computer translator for that yet. But I bet we will in future, and then we are going to probably turn the device off. Animals communicate with us in many ways, if you pay attention to your pet and kind of make a list of noises, grunts etc they do, you'll see a pattern. My cat tells me when I should go sleep and on the dot 9:00 he does his calling. All animals communicate, not in a speaking language as we know but you know what I mean.
The following is a extract from the web, of one of the scientists that are doing work on animal behaviour. So next time you walk around trees, listen to birds and they most probably are telling their mates that you are approaching their territory.

"... communication is the glue of animal societies. Without a means of communicating, no life, including the simplest single-celled organisms, could exist. Communication, like the tango, takes two. And it requires a signal, which can be anything from the release of chemicals between colonising bacteria, to the come-hither flashes between male and female fireflies in the backyard, to the "let's go" rumble of African elephants, to the "signature" whistles of dolphins, to a dog barking simply to be let outside."
Excellent question.

Mine do --- but not out loud. I get thoughts from my birds all the time (and no, I am not schizophrenic and not hallucinating). If a bird is sick, I will get a "feeling" or the thought "are you sick?" will come into my head. Every time I have ignored that thought the bird was sick. They tell me they are feeling neglected (want attention) and my African Grey has told me that he wants to go outside (I take him for "walks" every so often), wants to come out of cage and play, wants to come and cuddle, and is hungry.

I will sometimes think to them without vocalizing the thought, but I am not as good at that as I am at receiving it, I think. The first time I did it my African Grey looked at me like "oh, ok, she's talking to me" and my cockatiels looked at me like, "what the hell is she doing?"

I have a friend who can talk to animals really well. She has talked to several of my birds and has talked to my daughter's horse and told us things about his past that we knew that could not possibly have known -- we did not tell her and these are not the kind of things you guess. She is not familiar with horses, anyway.

So, you see, animals do talk - just not necessarily out loud.

I believe that my cat is able to convey basic desires and complaints with her mewing and body language. If she could talk, it would be like having my wife back so I would probably fall out with her.

If you don't get up off your big fat couch and take me for a walk I am going to chew your best shoes into a pulp.
