Chimpanzees are genetically closest to humans, particularly Pan paniscus (pygmy chimp, or better known as the bonobo). What it means to say that we're "genetically close"means that we branched off of a common ancestor from chimpanzees more recently than any other extant species. About 7-9 million years ago, depending on the literature you read, did we last share a common ancestor with chimps.
Remember that the first mammals are only a few hundred million years old. (Including dolphins, who evolved from land mammals!) So you share much more genetic information with a dolphin than you would say, a fish.
I heard somewhere we have about 20% of the same genes in common with a banana. So of course, all of this is relative :)

This may be an opinion definitely my own. I believe we are the closest to the dolphins due to the nature of the species. We do have a tail bone in which I believe was set for the water and not the land. I do not believe we as a species evolved from the chimps just because they have hands and feet does not make them our cousins ,so to speak.
I believe we evolved from the ocean and we of our own species . intellectually our minds are just as smart as the dolphin.
If you remember the scientists had to teach the chimps to mimic. They only copy was is taught where the dolphin is born with the knowledge of whom it is .
Dolphins have saved lives our kind. Have you ever heard of a chimp or ape doing the same???
Well I think I will end here could go on forever but I don't see a need..
Remember it is just my own opinion..
Thanks for letting me voice my thoughts and
Blessed Be to YOU!!!!

The Chimp actually has 98% of our chromosomes believe it or not, yet the Chimp isn't human and cannot do what we can do....nor can we do many things that the Chimp can do.

Both types of chimps - the "common" chimp and the bonobo - are equally related to humans. They are our closest relative.

Chimpanzees.
You're thinking of pigs because they have similar skin to ours and are the only other animal to get sunburnt, and also because they are used to grow human organs sometimes.
Dolphins you're thinking of because they are, like humans, high on the list of brain: body ratio, putting them among the smartest animals.
But while both have similarities to us, we are more closely related to apes, especially chimps.

Are closest living ancestors are bonobos, chimps, and gorillas. We share 99% of our genes with bonobos and chimps, but when looking at that keep in mind we share 85% with fruit flies.

chimps are 98% similar to human DNA. We share similar skin and organ structure to pigs, and dolphins are just intelligent for discovering sex as pleasure.
