Terrorism is a symptom and it has been used through the ages by the weak to confront the strong. Its causes are manyfold and this is too short a medium to explain. However, and very briefly. injustice, real or perceived, breeds terrorists. When people are humiliated, oppressed, exploited and feeling hopeless, they resort to what we define as terrorist activities.
Imperialistic actions inflame and exaggerate the situation. The people in the Middle East for over 100 years- and if one is to go back to the infamous crusades for over 700 years- have been consistently and persistently trodden upon by the Western powers, be it England, France and currently the USA. So what can a rational, reasonable, sane person expect as a reaction?

Short answer: Willie boy Clinton was more concerned with the little terrorist in his pants and plump interns rather than pursuing the terrorist nut cases who were planning 9-11. Jamie Gorelick, Asst Attorney General, was given information regarding muslims taking flying lessons from one of the Defense Dept intel agencies. She would not allow this info to be shared with the FBI on the grounds that these muslims were citizens and it would violate their rights. Trouble is they were not citizens. Google Able Danger and learn more about this colosal Clinton failure.
