Is confident an issue or could be related to her past or there is something I am not doing it right? I know each of those or combination of those could be the reason!

Personally I can tell through our first conversation (whether individually or in a group setting).
The main clue would be her eyes. Does she look at you, ready to engage in the conversation or does she look away when you're talking or asking her a question?
Being cold and shy are two different things.
In short, you are the only person who can tell cos she may have different responses to different people. If you're unsure in the first encounter then try again. If it's the same then it's almost confirmed.

if you are wise enough, then you can understand her through her talks. Yah confidence can show her personality wiseness mostly.

I dont believe in girl is cold for personality wise.my according girl is more strict for her personality.
