Yes, I've seen quite a few of those posts. Where they want to know what you think of the names and then get SO insulted when you don't agree that they're adorable. Even in answers when I see answerers try to be gentle in their negative opinions I've seen later comments added later by the poster saying how rude and nasty and evil we all were and that we're all beotches and haters etc. etc.
Why even post the question if you're not prepared for some disagreement? I think these people must go through life wearing rose coloured glasses and earmuffs. Seeing and hearing only what they want to see and hear.
Too funny!! :)

I think that the best use for a page like this is to get some valid random opinions about a name you're considering, somewhat close to the random demographic pool of people that your child is going to encounter in his/her lifetime. If a name doesn't work and people give negative feedback (and the poster accepts it and chooses a different name), then the answers are doing the asker's child a favor.

I do agree. However, you have to admit, sometimes people can be overly negative and become mean. When they aren't trying to help, and are negative, it's uncalled for. There are many ways to say the same thing.
"That name is horrible! It sucks!"
"I really don't like that name but here are some variations that I like and maybe you will get some inspiration from."
But you are ultimately right about people being too sensitive about asking other's opinions. There are people on here that want only positive comments. It doesn't make much sense to ask opinions and not expect some negative feedback.

Yes, I hate that too. People resort to name calling because they're frustrated, angry and it's so much easier than formulating a logical argument. That's said, why do you even care if someone has a different opinion about Cam Newton and Marcus Dupree than you do? Just let it go and stop whining about it you jackwagon!

That is so true! Why would somebody want yahoo answers to name their child? I named my daughters with help of family members not strangers! I guess the people that want you to name their child have no lives of their own! There are plenty of people that come up with some rude and ludicris things to say, and Honestly they need to get a life too!

I agree completely. People who solicit opinions only to scoff at anyone who disagrees is only looking for a pat on the back. When someone asks, "What do you think of the name Darion Landon Vaccum McHenry Alyxandir," what they're really saying is, "Look how freaking creative I am by coming up with my super-classy celebrity-caliber names and my own ridiculous spelling simply by changing a few letters."

i think it is fine that people ask that..all they want is to see what a random general public think of names...if you don't want to answer their questions you don't have to therefore i see no reason for complaining. However i do think that people who instead of ansering others questions feel the need to ramble on about insignificant things. for example someone asked what damage tanning does to a tatto and what to do to avoid it and someone wrote a speech on how tanning causes skin cancer. hmm...was that the question?.....

I think naming a baby is a personal choice. I didn't need any baby books(Pre-Internet) to help me name my sons. Some people can be very rude to one another here.
That is just not necessary.
