I sew, I thought everyone learned how when they were kids! I don't bust out with homemade clothes but I could (although admittedly the first few would be fairly bad) But I sew rips and buttons and I generally hem my own pants after someone marks them for me. Isn't anyone else domesticated?

It isn't taught in school anymore. They are too busy telling them about all kinds of sex. Boys and Girls could both do with a little domestication in school.

My grandmother sat me at her old treadle machine ,and let me "get to it"That was 50 years ago,and today i'd be lost without a sewing machine. The big one came when my daughter married 3 years ago,and I sewed for all the women. However,my sisters don't sew or cook like we were taught. Then too we learned some in school, and by lots of seam ripping. It has been a joy in my life;as well as being a great saving at times.I'm very short one of the first things I was taught-how to shorten hems and sleeves. With even a simple machine-you can customize your whole home.I feel young women miss alot by not being taught even how to sew on a button.

I think that everyone should know how to sew, too. however, since we live in such a materialistic world these days, most people think it's cheaper and easier to just replace ripped things rather than fix them.

i can sew and craft though! my friends love getting homemade gifts from me, and it's so much cheaper than buying them at the store!

One of my friends mothers taught me how to sew when I was 9. I recently made a beautiful set of curtains for my daughters room and they only cost $10! It was simple and easy and in less than 2 hours I had pretty purple curtains and cream colored valance!

I grew up in a house full of seamstresses. I sew. I make my own clothing, and I make Mardi Gras costumes.

I had to learn how to sew when I realized they didn't make halloween costumes in my size. Plus I have a tendency to enjoy medieval/fantasy larps.
