Hi Nikhil
About 3 years back the ASI used a home grown 'face-pack' of multani mutti (fuller's earth) along with some other stuff and cleaned the marble of theTaj Mahal. As a result the yellow cast that had formed on the marble surface was removed and the original soft white restored.
Since then, the strict controls on pollution of all forms (industrial/automotive) around the vicinity of the monument have ensured that the whitness is protected.
As a result the Taj Mahal is white and as white does relects the colours of the light that falls on it, thus appearing pinky peach at sunrise, a burning white under the briight noon sun and a golden yellow at sunset.
:-)
