-i know the complexity involved in developing a new OS.

I would suggest you start by studying the Linux kernel. It's open source meaning you can review the source code and use and modify it as you please. See www.kernel.org.

I will give you the benefit of doubt that your not just asking this for a joke. I don't think you are aware of the complexity of what an OS is. The Kernel is only one part of the entire system. Anyways, look up Ken Thompson and Dennis Richie. They created UNIX. Richie in particular, has a real gift in being able to explaining complex subjects in simple terms.
OK, your serious. Look these guys up, the development of UNIX is well documented.

Firstly you must realize that this is a pretty daunting task and it requires multi-disciplinary skills ranging from computer architecture to asm + C programming to optimization theory. Its not something that can be done in a week or two.
