Timothy was young and Paul who wrote the letter was advising him not to let anyone despise his youthfulness but rather to behave in a manner that was becoming as a christian. this is also for us today to be mindful that even as young christians we should not let any look down on us in our spiritual youth but conduct ourselves in faith purity and love as befits a true christian.

Timothy is sometimes taken as being a little too timid, at least to Paul's eye.

And from this verse is quite young, at least to be a leader and teacher in a culture which paid attention and respect to grey-bearded patriarchs.

So Paul is saying that Timothy's youth is not an automatic disqualification for leadership, however some might see it, as he has the knowledge and character for the role he has been given.

Apostle Paul was writing to his "spiritual son" in the Lord, Timothy, exhorting Timothy to let his life be an example to all believers.

Timothy was relatively young in age as a pastor and many do not really respect him because of his age. The best way, according to Paul, is to live his life in such a way that he 'walks and talk' and become a living example of what he preaches.

This is a private instruction from the Apostle Paul to Timothy. Timothy was taking over the training and leadership of the church at ephuses. He was apparantly still quite young and Paul did not want him to be intimidated by some of the older members. Paul wanted him to show the ephesian church that even though he was still a relative youth, he was still the choice of the apostle Paul. And, to remember to lead by example as well as by word. It is still good God'ly counsel for us today. Hope that helps.----theBerean
