Because you see, if only subliminally, that this is a unique communication opportunity, and that the potential for changing your life and the lives of many others is here. Right here.

I started with Yahoo Answers just over a year ago, when it was a new beta testing program. I found there is a category of social activity new to me and to most of the world: Internet friend. You may only know a nickname, you don't usually know whether a photo used as an avatar is accurate, or indeed hardly anything about one another's physical lives. But you reach out and you get to know one another's minds.

And then, if you are fortunate, you start to connect in other ways. Every Q&A page is customized by the user to allow for as much or as little communication with other users as they want. So, for example, many of us started getting connected via Yahoo 360. IM suits some people. Email is drawing the whole world together. All of these lines of communication are linked to your Q&A page here.

So here I am, a year later, having made some real good friends this way, packing and preparing to move to St. Louis, MO, to be in a circle of friends I would never have known any other way.

It's not a waste as you are connecting with people all over the world.

Now that is pretty cool!

For the same reason you probably (me included) wasted time talking with people in chat rooms. That lost its appeal so here we are.

Cos they've put the idea of racking up points to go to the next level into our heads.

Because you need the satisfaction of points that don't matter racking up aimlessly as you answer questions. Just like me!

You 'west' so much time answering YAHOO Answers because if you don't answer questions you will not able to ask questions.
N.B.:'west' or 'waste'?

you should be happy that you are helping people with advice when they need it. im sure that there are people on here that are glad that you waste time answering their questions because it just shows that there are still people in this crappy world that care :)
