because white history is already learned in schools, its shown on tv, its in magazines. Its available in the mainstream. Black history (especially the bit before colonialism) is not as widely available.

however, i personally am not offended if you want to celebrate white history month or asian month. As long as you dont try and get rid of Black history month its cool by me

Black History month is when blacks celebrate the time in the past when they became free in the United States.

I don't think there should be a point in Black History month. and that type would be racism. they shouldn't be Black history month, asian month, white month or any other race month. I consider it offensive for other race that isn't the month of them.

I agree. If the Federal government is going to support a "history month" for one race of people, then they should have one for ALL races of people.

I don't like having anything shoved down my throat, especially if it's being done in a hypocritical way.

Mary Church Terrell began the practice of honoring Frederick Douglass on his February 14th birthday in 1900, according to her autobiography, in Washington DC. Carter G. Woodson who moved to Washington in 1909 and witnessed the annual celebration begun by Terrell for 15 years prior to choosing the second week of February for Black History Week in 1926 because it marks the birthday of one man who greatly influenced the Black population, Frederick Douglass. Later on in 1976, as the nation reached its bicentennial, the week was expanded into an entire month.

History books had barely started covering black history when the tradition of Black History Month was started. At that point, most representation of blacks in history books was only in reference to the low social position they held, with the exception of George Washington Carver. Black History Month can also be referred to as African-American History Month, or African Heritage Month. One of the few U.S. history works at that time told from an African American perspective was W.E.B. DuBois' 1935 work "Black Reconstruction."

In the United Kingdom (UK), Black History Month is celebrated in the month of October. The official guide to Black History Month in the UK[1] is published by Sugar Media, Ltd., who produce 100,000 copies nationwide.

Part of the aim of Black History Month is to expose the harms of racial prejudice and to cultivate black self-esteem following centuries of socio-economic oppression [citation needed]. It is also an opportunity to recognize significant contributions to society made by people with African heritage.

Actually because it is the shortest month of the year, and it was the compromise that northern Democrats gave to southern Republicans to appease their KKK constituencies by keeping the celebration to a minumum.

Its an example of our PC rulers and their pandering to whatever the blacks want. SOmething of little importance they can give them so little white kids can be taught that inventing peanut butter is one of the greatest achievements of all time.
