Many expats live in Dubai for years. What is their Dubai status? Do they become naturalized citizens after a certain time? Their children that are born in the UAE become citizens by birthright? I'm American, so I'm familiar with birthright, naturalization, green cars and work visa. How does all this work in Dubai?

You will be a UAE resident as long as you work here and your employer is your sponsor or you have to be the owner of some property in Dubai and be sponsored by the Real Estate.

There is no way for foreigners to become a UAE citizen beside being a woman getting married to an UAE National. (Don't work for men marrying a local girl). A baby born in the UAE by a foreigner will have the Nationality of the parents.
