I am a middle-aged woman who works for the government. I want to play the electric guitar really well so that everyone looks at me in amazement and says "that old hag can really rock!"
How can I learn how to play ACDC and great bands like that?

I think it would be MORE amazing if you played an Autoharp or something. Just about everyone plays the electric guitar: Yr boss, the wee kid down the street, Tony Blair (!!), yr sister/mum/dad, ALL yr work-colleagues (they do you know) and the Jolly Green Giant.
Learn to play AC/DC songs on the autoharp, that's my advice!

I think your passion in guitar, mixed with your driven desire to master playing the instrument like a rock icon like Van Halen are keys to success in your journey--one I hope you take and find success.
My co-worker couldn't even tune a Stratocaster three years ago. Today, he can make a Fender wail like Stevie Ray Vaughn. I believe you carry the same passions for guitar like he does.
Just bear in mind rock's greatest legendary guitarists all began playing at a rather young age. And they ALL are resonant in saying it took A LOT of hours, days, weeks---and yes, years to master their current skill levels. And they to this day still discover never before found "riffs" from their artistic instrument.
Know what it takes and with your passion and dedicaton, go on and learn guitar.
How cool it'd be to know you.....and I hope one day to hear you rock!!

lots of time and lots of dedication, the best guitar player i've ever met had no friends in high school, except a les paul studio.
