If the middle-east heads towards the Shia-Sunni confrontation, the US motive of going to war is achieved. US can be around in the area for a longer time, kill more innocent people, have more power over the world oil reserves etc.. BTW, I dont think Saudi and Israel will ever have an alliance. Both Saudi and Iran see Israel as their common enemy.
