There is a time and place to be brutally honest.
You wont be in a relationship long if you treat your partner that way so why would it be acceptable to treat a stranger that way?
If you are a doctor and a huge person comes in for advice - telling them they will die prematurely if they dont get some weight off is another story. But even that should be done with compassion.

Either a psychological load at the same time Hollywood personality projection aptly describes Simon Cowell types. However, if you just want bare only the core of it, that is, is it just alright to be blunt when you know you are right, that is another matter.
On an individual's point of view, it is just okay. But we are in a society with other communicating beings with different viewpoints, perspective, and self-talks. Thus, communication is the key here!
So you know you are right, what then if others shut off their communication lines to you. It is as if you just want to think out loud! Worse, even if they see your point, they will try to disprove and reject it. What now of your honesty and candor. The virtue of honesty is meant to effect good and to be effective in effecting good results.

The brutal honesty is a good thing, but there is no need for the meanness or for personal attacks on people. Brutal honesty is what people need to expect in certain aspects of their life. In a work environment and especially in that business, they might as well get used to it. The meanness is a bad thing.

Well, it depends on how brutually honest and cruel they really are... I think brutually honest is good but if your honesty is told for the wrong reasons to the other person then you are just plain evil... Simon Cowell types have to learn to be more diplomatic in their honesty.. honesty is good if its for the purpose to help the other see their wrong!!! And of course done in a loving way...

the Simon cowel you refer to is not honest, it is a show he is the architect of that banal format it is about as close to reality as star trek. if you are asking is it good to be honest with oneself than yes it is, however we all need to escape into the realms of fantasy sometimes, knowing we are reliving the symptoms of everyday live is mandatory, as we say colloquially ,wake up and smell the sawdust.
unfortunately some people never do

Good,I think because Simon is a realist. He knows that beneath the glitz and glamor, it is a real job with real harsh demands and once you step into that world, all sympathies will be left at the door.

I would suggest that they are neither good nor bad; just mean/cruel and brutally honest.
People are people, a mixture of good and bad. A trait does not make one good or bad; a trait is just one glimpse of the genuine person's overall nature.

such people are just very insecure. Honest is fine but to hurt somebody knowingly has no justification. So people like (Simon Cowell types) are not bad people, they are just insecure about themselves and their abilities

Honesty is good. But there's a balance between honesty and bluntness, and then cruelty, and sometimes Simon crosses it. But this makes it all the bigger deal when someone succeeds and gains his respect of admiration!
