You can sprain your wrist in several different ways. It is usually caused by putting your wrist under too much strain at an awkward angle for your wrist. The sprain is in your muscles (and sometimes tendons) and they have been stretched farther than they can go.
Often, a broken bone will heal more quickly than sprained muscles because of the blood manufactured in the bone (Oh it gets complicated). Anyway, it should take approximately 6 weeks for it to heal to a great degree in which you can use it. Double that time in which you can use it entirely.

I sprung my wrists playing hockey in high school and I think it took about a wk or so to heal I wore a brace for support and that was on all the time. When I began 2 heal I took it off more than I wore it. unless I was lifting and working.
