I think it's true that bad things come in 3's. I see 3 things in your subject line there, so the good news is, I think you're done with bad things for a while!
Hopefully your 3 good things will come along soon.

Is there any possibility you could get a roommate that would help with the rent?
Just take a deep breath and figure out what your priorities are right now. Do you have a boss that would understand why you are TEMPORARILY going to be late a few times because of riding with the coworker? Is there a different coworker you could ride with? If so 'maybe' you could put off fixing your car right now. If not fixing your car is going to jeopardize your job, then you will have to fix your car. Is there any way of getting your rent reduced now that your wife and kids are not living there? Does your landlord have another place you could rent that would be cheaper, so maybe that wouldn't seem like you were breaking your lease?

Breaking a lease is within your legal rights as a renter. There is nothing that legally keeps you in a lease -- so screw that. Your own survival comes first, so unfortunately you'll probably have to skip out on rent as you sneak your stuff out in the middle of the night. (Make a promise to repay the rent you skipped out on if/when you can, or at least make amends with your landlord). Just because you got a divorce doesn't mean you have to move back home! You've got a whole new life ahead of you in CA. Spend time getting your life back on track and find that positive strength inside of yourself, then you will be a good example to your kids and your ex. You must fix your car even if you have to sleep in it, as work = survival, which is your top priority. As far as being late for work, can you make up for it by staying late? Also, you may want to inform your boss that your car's broken down and you're waiting for a part to get it fixed and that you'll make up any lost time.
Good luck in this new stage of your life. You will make it!!!

break the lease
in california there is nothing the landlord can do to you other than keep your security deposit. if you explain it to the landlord you can probably come to an agreement. He will appreciate you being straight with him. If you were my tenant I would say...just give me 30 days notice and if the place is in good shape, you get your FULL deposit back, with interest.
do not sneak out in the middle of the night without telling your landlord...why treat him bad for no reason? if he knows you are leaving he can get to work on re-renting the place.
it should say in the lease what the penalty is for breaking the lease anyway
spending an extra 540 per month to stay where you are at is stupid.
I would move first.
and tell your co-worker it is important to get to work on time...maybe offer to pay for all the gas for every day you are on time. then save your money so you can fix your car or buy something more reliable.

Keep the faith even when it is hard. Things can only get better. Ask your landlord if you can find someone to take over the lease, that way you are not out any money and can get the cheaper place. Or get a room mate to help with the rent. Good luck. Oh yeah and for goodness sakes don't go back to Mississippi, stay in California!

I would talk to my attorney and ask about the lease. You may find out that under the circumstance that you can get out of the lease without hurting your credit. I'd at least ask can't hurt. Then base on what they tell you, if you can't then try talking to the landlord about it. Maybe they can just move you to another apartment with one bedroom. Anything is worth a try.

i can't think of of solutions for all your problems yet one ingredient which you're able to be very careful approximately is the corporation that supplies you to locate you a place to hire. they're all ripoffs, all they do is positioned the newspaper information in a sheet and hand it to you. you will locate that most of the places they deliver you to have been already rented weeks before. If it became into me, i attempt to sleep in automobile.
