I'm 18, asian male, 5'9", 130lbs, kinda introvert. I have never been to the gym before. i have no idea what it really looks like inside. I'm thinking about going to the gym 'cuz i look way too skinny. i wanna build more muscles in order to make me confident. i know my question is kinda plain or meaningless, but i just feel so nervous to go 'cuz i feel so depressed when i see other guys w/ big muscles working out, and i'm all the way skinny. so can anyone tell me what it looks like? or what should i need to notice and stuff?

Any gym you go to will probably have a bunch of cardio machines and free weights. If you're insecure and don't have a clue, then I'd suggest that when you go in for your first time you go to the treadmill and run, do situps on those giant balls or arm curls with the free weights. Just do easy stuff and kind of watch what other guys are doing and how they do it. I actually had to read the instructions on many of the machines because I had no idea how they worked. Yes, I felt really dumb and I thought people were watching me but I was too determined to quit. Big guys with muscles didn't always have all that bulk anyway and I don't think they are there to judge anyone, they're mostly there and focused on themselves. Have fun, good luck.

This is more a question for health and wellness except for the you being gay part. Unless you are going to a gym of *******, nobody will pay you any mind.
And just remember this, my friend told me when I started going awhile ago.
--(Who would you look at and judge? The skinny man, the overweight man working out trying to better themselves, or the woman in spandex who only goes to bend over and flirt with the gym men.)

Terry, I know how you feel...I went to the gym and it seemed just to out of my league..I felt really foolish and didn't know how to do the simplest things...but it's not hard to learn (LOL just look at some of the idiots there).....but everytime that I started to feel insecure...I would say to myself...."I am here for me...not for all the other people around me in the gym..I'm just here for me..." and it worked...soon I was right up there doing it all...It can be done and you can do it....And I'll tell you that most of those guys with the big muscles started out like you...and deep inside they think they still might be like that...go for it.

Just forget about everyone else. It's not their concern what you're doing and just enjoy yourself, lifting weights or what have you...you have just as much a right to be there as do the guys with the pecks bursting out of their white t-shirts. Just walk in like you own the joint and do whatever you want. You could ask a friend to go too, if you didn't want to go alone. Good luck.

Don't worry about it. I go to the gym and see skinny girls with big boobs and then look at myself and my imperfections and I sometimes feel bad about my body. It's totally natural to feel self-conscious! God made you the way you are, so be proud of your body! The gym is full of machines and sweaty people who probably won't be paying much attention to you because they are also self-conscious about THEIR bodies! Just go and have a good time and get your body in great shape! Good luck!

Fist of all you are Asian! you are why gay men go to there in the first place! Your small built and smooth, dont worry! If guys are starring at you it's not becuase your ugly. Go in confidence and workout. Your just making it a bigger deal that what it is. Skinny asians are the hottest anyway.. trust me..

what are you scared of ? success ? I'm used to be 6 feet tall and only 150lbs. I looked like a freak at the gym. I didn't compare myself to other guys who were lots buffer than me. I excercised right, ate right and it's been 5 years now. I'm still 6 feet tall but I weight 215lbs. Only 8% body fat. Be patience and don't compare yourself to others. You live with your own success other guys don't share their hard gain muscles with you. Don't pay attention to them
